"The Ideal Day Racer with a Dedicated Class Following."
The W.D. Schock Corporation has built over 900 Santana 20's since
the boat was designed by Shad Turner in 1977.
The boat has a dedicated class following with the Santana 20 Nationals
usually drawing between 40 and 50 boats.
The boat is the ideal day racer. With 550 lbs. of ballast in its
fin keel, the total boat weighs in at 1350 lbs. making it easy to
trailer.
One of the first "sport boats", it is a delight to sail.
With its high aspect rig, and generous 8 ft beam, the boat's initial
stability and minimum weather helm, results in very high pointing
angles. Going to weather, the Santana 20 out points many other designs.
The boat has a "new" deck with open transom. The old
deck had an enclosed transom and square inner cockpit sides. The
rolled cockpit edge on the new deck is much easier on the human
frame. In addition, the new deck is uncluttered with open access
to the traveler. The new deck package, with fiberglass bulkheads,
can be purchased and fit to the older hulls. The fiberglass bulkheads
of the new boat remove the potential for dry rot, a plague in older
boats with minimum maintenance.
